ISLE OF ARRAN
The beautiful Isle of Arran lies of the west coast of Scotland rising dramatically from the Firth of Clyde. A 'Scotland in miniature', the north is ruggedly mountainous and sparsely populated, the south milder and home to the majority of the 4,500 people who live here.
The main car ferry to the Isle of Arran sails from Ardrossan harbour in Ayrshire on the West Coast of mainland Scotland and sails to Brodick Pier. The sailing takes approximately one hour. It is advisable to make reservations for the crossing in advance, especially during the summer months. Caledonian MacBrayne, calmac.co.uk can be contacted online or by telephone on 08705 650000 for crossing times, and reservations.
Trains run from Glasgow Central Station to connect with every ferry sailing from Ardrossan harbour during the summer months, (except 7am sailing). Glasgow Central station is also very close to Glasgow airport and a short bus or taxi journey can be taken to travel between them. There are now a number of budget airlines flying cheaply to Glasgow including easyjet.co.uk and ryanair.com.
The Arran-Holiday cottages are located on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Lamlash. Lamlash epitomises the Victorian charm and gentility that originally brought so many trippers to Arran in the latter half of the 19th Century, and has kept many coming back ever since. |
